Counted Cross Stitch is most commonly done on an even-weave cotton fabric called Aida Cloth. It is an open weave with easily defined threads running vertically and horizontally. The holes at the intersections of the weaves form a square grid. Stitches are worked diagonally across this grid in both directions to form an "X". Hence the name Cross Stitch. Most cross stitch is worked from a paper pattern called a chart that shows the position and color of the stitch. Differently shaped symbols on the chart represent the different colors of threads used in the design. By counting the symbols on the chart you know how many stitches to make on the Aida Cloth. This is referred to as "Counted Cross Stitch". Design Works is pleased to offer a wide range of designs in many different styles. On these pages you will find our extensive line of Counted Cross Stitch designs. Enjoy browsing and be sure to let us know if we can assist you in any way.
